ALDERNEY WEEK SHOW STOPPERSEvery year, Alderney Week can rely on brilliant performers who just pull it off. And you can look forward to great entertainment this year, when we celebrate our 60th anniversary of Alderney Week. The road show kicked off with a “60s Stars in their Eyes” show at the Miss Alderney Disco on 23 May, and… all the way from America, to strut their stuff on stage in the Island Hall here in Alderney were
And they might just come back for an ENCORE during Alderney Week In case you are wondering why these five stars teamed up to perform “Going to the Chapel”… that’s because Dougal’s son was getting married the next day. Real Brass!The Alderney Blowers – the island’s adopted brass band whose musicians come from all parts of the UK to join up for Alderney Week. And it’s not until they land in Alderney that they all play together. Music for your ears! They kick off every Alderney Week with the a very special performance at the Alderney Week Church Service on the first Sunday, and on Cavalcade Day they lead the parade and entertain thousands on The Butes. They delight the audience with their musical extravaganza at the Wednesday Gala Night show, and their big concert is Thursday night. Alderney is very lucky to have them and Alderney Week without the Alderney Blowers would be hard to imagine. Back in the UK many of them play in the Redridge Brass – of television fame. Redbridge Brass, The Champion Band of London & Southern Counties (4 years running), has been placed 7th at "The Nationals" held on 15th October 2005 at The Royal Albert Hall!! ….Alderney’s very own little brass and wood band whose conductor is Sue Cooper. They play at the Sunday Street market and of course, they play in Alderney throughout the year at different occasions.
You might remember Blooze Crewz, the band that made a name for themselves last year. Well, they’ve regrouped and will be giving us a fantastic performance on the first night of Alderney Week.
The Rain or Shine Theatre Company comes to Alderney every year for Alderney Week to treat theatre goes to memorable and most enjoyable outdoor performances of classic theatre with a wonderful touch of humour. This year they will be treating the audience to “A Winter’s Tale” in the Island Hall Gardens. For more information click here
They are the ever popular Alderney Kfa (Keep Fit Association) troopers of graceful movers and dancers, known as the Pommerettes, the Kfa Sunbeams and the Kfa Teen Team. The Kfa was formed by Angela Stanley in 1998 and now boasts eighty-five members ranging from age 4 to 16 both girls and boys. The group had its first Alderney Week performance in 1998.They were such a success and the crowds loved them. The Kfa have been a huge part of Alderney Week ever since, their routines getting more complicated and advanced every year and always reflect that year’s Alderney Week theme. The Kfa have a very busy week starting with the opening of Alderney Week through to the Torchlight Processing covering events like: The Street Parade, Street Market, Cavalcade Day and the Gala-Night to name but a few. Oscar, the Channel Island’s most famous puffin, flew over from his Jersey studios on Cavalcade Day, because the 2007 theme was all about Oscars. He took part in the Cavalcade and then mingled with the children and grown-ups! This year Oscar Puffin will be joining the big Children’s Party on the Butes on Saturday 2 August. [img]30signals[/img] 30 Signals Regiment If you’re wondering why the 30 Signals are parading through the streets of St. Anne on Sunday 10 August – here’s the reason: The association between Alderney and the 30 Signals began 37 years ago and 20 years ago, on May 1988, the States of Alderney resolved to approve the granting of the Freedom of the Island to the 30 Signal Regiment, conferring the right “to march through Town with pennant flying, drums beating and bayonets fixed”.
Soldiers of th30 Signals who are currently on the island to assist wit ha number of important community projects as well a helping the Alderney Week Team, will be marking this important 20th anniversary with the traditional Freedom Parade which may be led by the Guernsey Boys Marching Band, from the Church Gates down Victoria Street, then back, up to Royal Connaught Square for an inspection.
