What does it take to be Miss Alderney?

Miss Alderney is effectively the island’s youngest ambassadress. During her year of reign she will represent her island not just during Alderney Week, but also at other sporting and social events if she is available and happy to do so. Her appearance is important, but so is an outgoing personality, enthusiasm and the commitment to be a good ambassadress for Alderney.

 Entry Rules:

  • Contestants must be aged between 17 and 25 years of age – and must be at least 17 years old on the first day of Alderney Week (4 August)
  • Contestants must be Alderney residents. If studying or working off the island, that is not a problem.
  • You will be in Alderney for the Easter Weekend to attend the Miss Alderney Election party on Easter Saturday, when the winner will be announced and crowned. (Dress to impress! Wear your best party frock – no jeans please!)
  • You will be on the island throughout the entire Alderney Week
  • You will represent Alderney at the Jersey Battle of Flowers Parade

Together with Little Miss and Master Alderney and family and friends, you are invited to enter a float for the Cavalcade. For the past fifteen years or more, the Miss Alderney Float has always claimed the trophy for Best Overall. However if the commitment to build a float proves too much of a problem, we  will arrange for you to be driven in a convertible limousine which you can decorate with flowers and bunting for the day.

 What are Miss Alderney’s Duties?

After being crowned on Easter Saturday night by the previous year’s Miss Alderney, you  will be available the following day(s) for a press/photo call when you will also be interviewed by the local broadcast and television media. Don’t worry, you will be assisted throughout by the Alderney Week Team.

Miss Alderney will act as Alderney’s young ambassadress and will do the island proud. Leading up to Alderney Week, and after Alderney Week is over, you may be invited by different event organisers to present prizes or awards, provided you are available and happy to do so.

Your Alderney Week appearances officially start on Saturday afternoon 4 August, when you will be leading the Official Opening Parade and will be introduced to the public by the Town Crier. The following morning you will attend the official Alderney Week Church Service and later that afternoon, you will crown Little Holiday Prince and Little Miss Holiday Princess.

On Cavalcade Day, after the Cavalcade has arrived on the Butes, Miss Alderney will act as host to visiting Miss Jersey Battle of Flowers, Miss Guernsey and Miss and Mister Beaumont-Hague (our French twin town) and will present prizes to the winning floats. On the last night of Alderney Week, you will lead the Torchlight Procession.

It’s an action-packed week of fun. Just take a look at the photographs of Alderney Week 2011 or even 2010, which are published on our FlickR website: You’ll find Miss Alderney making frequent appearances throughout Alderney Week and clearly enjoying every moment.

Youe will also represent her island at the Jersey Battle of Flowers and the Moonlight Parade the following night (unless the date clashes with Alderney Week).

Throughout Alderney Week Miss Alderney will be asked to attend a number of major Alderney Week events to present prizes. These will be agreed between yourself and the Alderney Week Team and you will be assisted at all events by a member of the Alderney Week Team.

That’s all it takes and the successful candidate is guaranteed a fabulous season of glamour and fun.
