We came over to Alderney for Alderney week and what a fantastic week it was

 Your Feedback, please!

The local media and virtually everybody on the island – visitors and residents alike – said this year’s Alderney Week was the best ever. But they say that every year…..!

We’d like to hear from you and we’d like to publish your comments on this page. So, please get in touch with us by email to info@alderneyweek.net

“Would you please convey my thanks to all the members of the Alderney Week Team for their hard work and imagination that produced such a successful Alderney Week.

Despite the recession, which affects the island’s tourism industry, it was great to see so many people supporting the events and being entertained n the island. Your team’s efforts make a significant contribution to the island’s economy.

Thank you, and all your team, and the many other helpers you enlist before and during the event.”

Stuart Trought President of the States of Alderney – 26 August 2011

“Many thanks for Alderney Week programme. We all 12 of us have just returned from having a fantastic week on Alderney. We were staying in Fort Clonque and despite being marooned occasionally managed to see most of your events. My thanks to you and your hardworking team who seem to have put a lot into this event. I did spot you rushing around even on the morning of postponed events we were in Jack’s when you popped in at kept us all updated. Staying on Alderney in the Fort was an unforgettable experience. We will have to save up and do it again.

Keith Hand – 7 August 2011

We had a wonderful time and the parade last night was quite magical. I have to tell you that between the various people we bumped into who we knew, and the many total strangers who came to have a word with Kevin when he was easily identifiable as the piper, your team’s praises could not be sung highly enough.  Most of these people had been in Alderney for the entire week, some had brought family members from elsewhere, one lady lived in Florida in the US ... but the sentiments were all the same: a fantastic week jam packed with fun, and superbly organised too.  Please pass our personal congratulations on to your team

Our very best wishes (and may you wind down enough to be able to relax for a couple of days!!)”.

Natalie and Kevin, Guernsey -  7 August  2011

“Between Friday 30 July and Monday 2 August, Aurigny Air Services ran 38 extra flights from Southampton to Alderney and 30 additional flights from Guernsey. From the Sunday to Tuesday after the event it  ran 29 extra flights to Southampton and 31 to Guernsey to get everybody home again”, said Aurigny Managing Director Malcolm Hart (quoted on IFCfeed.com- Guernsey)

“ Alderney Week is very important to the island and we always to what we can to ensure that as many people can get there to enjoy the week and bolster the island’s visitor economy.”

Malcolm Hart – Managing Director of Aurigny Air Services

Dear Ronnie,

Would you please convey my thanks to all the members of the Alderney Week Team for their hard work and imagination that produced such a successful Alderney Week.

In such hard times, especially for the island tourism industry, it was great to see so many people at every event. Your efforts make a significant contribution to the island’s economy.

Thank you, and all your team, and the many other helpers you enlist before and during the event.”

“To all the organisers & helpers of Alderney Week,

My family & I wish to thank you for such a fantastic time, once again, during all of Alderney Week. The number & variety of events are phenomenal enabling all ages & abilities to participate. The quality of organisation is also amazing for that number of different activities. Looking forward to next year !

“This year I enjoyed a new aspect of Alderney week, instead of being a contestant in the events, I joined the Alderney week team. From the Thursday before Alderney week to the Monday afterwards, I experienced the sheer amount of effort that goes into the week, that others don't normally see.

I was enlisted to the Alderney week technical team in the blue wagon. My first job was to help raise the stage and marquees and chasing the 'podger' around the Butes. I then  entered into the world of lighting and sound, finding my way around the miles of cables! Thanks to the patience of Paul and Pete i was ready to face the big gala night with confidence. My greatest memory is being at the front of the torchlight parade instead of my normal place at the back and being one of the first to light the bonfire and so I  can’t wait to do it next year!!! if the team will have me?”

August 2010 -  Jamie Hill (UK) who joined the Alderney Week Team 2010 as a technical assistant as part of  a work experience programme

“This experience gave me a great insight to events management with considerable hands-on experience. I was able to see theory I have learnt at university being put into practice, which was really useful and very beneficial for my continuing studies. Thank you every so much for this experience. I’ve had great fun and it’s been a fantastic experience”.

August 2010 Helene Matthews (UK) who joined the Alderney Week Team 2010 as an assistant to the events management team as part of a work experience programme

“Dear Alderney Week Team

Thank you for a brilliant week.  I sent my husband off on the "Family Yacht", also known as the Floating Caravan, ahead of us to ensure our holiday accommodation was safely in place in Alderney Harbour.

Myself, our son (12), daughter(10) and Ruby the labrador travelled to Southampton Airport to embark on the new experience of flying Aurigny. Having been to Alderney on several occasions a few years ago by yacht, travelling by plane was so speedy despite the slight delay due to the fog hovering over the island. We were looking forward to the various exciting events planned for the week and we were not disappointed.

We arrived late on the Saturday so retired to our boat. Hope the other occupants of the little yellow plane did not mind my dog's heavy breathing. Sunday was a day of watching as the little holiday Prince and Princess were chosen-all loving the Beach. Ruby loved the beach too (Saline of course), but I'm not sure dogs were invited to be a Holiday Princess. The evening found us all snuggled up on a rug on the Butes watching Mamma Mia - hilarious.

Monday being Cavalcade Day was great fun. We found a good spot at the top of Victoria Street to watch the amazing results of weeks of hard work as the colourful floats and walking groups poured down the street. Busy on the Butes with some fab fundraising ideas to borrow back home.

Tuesday we wandered a bit, happened to find Miss Alderney looking after her cow and her beautiful calf, then focused our energies on Canine Capers. Brilliant fun. Ruby and I joined in all the events, including the Agility which she came second in!! Not bad for an eight year old who has never done anything like that before. I must say the compere, Jaques with the French Poodle Mimi provided us with a catchline for the rest of the holiday.

Wednesday's daytime highlight was the Sandcastle competition with some amazing artistic talent being displayed on Braye Beach. We loved the turtle and the giant hand as well as the various landmarks from around the world. The  evening of course found us back on the Butes being entertained by you mad lot. Ronnie's "There's a hole in my Jetty" had us in tears. A copy of the lyrics would be great as we keep trying to sing it and not getting very far. Brilliantly topical and very very funny even for visitors like us.

Thursday although wet had the RNLI events. We had booked an early dinner at Harbour Lights for our daughter's 11th birthday so we could go on the Ghost Walk. Lots of scary moments, in the museum and a particularly over dramatic ghost in the graveyard.

“After watching the Daft Raft race on Friday morning we headed out of the Harbour to Guernsey to reminisce about a very entertaining fun filled week. Thank you so much for all of your hard work. We'll be back.”

3 September 2009 - The Edington Family, Ickenham, Middlesex

“...The week went extremely well and all feedback received from both visitors and industry has been very positive. As the largest tourism event in the calendar, Alderney Week is the highlight of the year for so many...”

9 September 2009 - Joanna Parmentier, States of Alderney Marketing & PR Manager

“I write to thank you and all the members of your team and of course the very many helpers that you enlisted to produce and excellent Alderney Week.

I know that everyone who was on the island during the week enjoyed the many events that your team organised. The popularity of Alderney Week is such that the population of the island increases significantly during the week – which is a welcomed boost to our tourism industry.”
