So, what’s Alderney Week all about? Imagine 8 days of non-stop fun and frolics with events, competitions and entertainment for everybody, whatever their age. Home-grown entertainment at its very best with over 120 events produced, staged and organised by the Alderney Week Team, with the help of many volunteers, musicians, thespians and event organisers - all making sure you and your family, whatever your ages, will have the most marvellous time on this little island in the middle of the English Channel.
Alderney Week’s Cavalcade Day, one of the big highlights, always takes place on the first Monday of August, and always concludes with the dramatic torchlight procession the following Saturday night. But there are many more highlights throughout the week which draw visitors from near and far to this little island on the rock. In fact, the island’s 2,400-strong population almost doubles during that week and you’re strongly advised to book your accommodation well ahead of time. Go to www.visitalderney.com
Since 1948 Alderney has been Alderney ’s – and indeed the Channel Islands’ – biggest annual carnival event. Alderney Week started well before the last war and, what was initially a village fayre, has since developed into a madcap extended week. The history of Alderney Week is fascinating and you can read all about it here
Every year, the Alderney Week Team comes up with a new theme and new events. The theme for 2011 was “Fantasy Islands” and for 2012 it’s “The Games”, of course. The provisional programme of events will be published within the next few months on this website. For provisional information, click here
Meanwhile, you can find out what happened during Alderney Week 2011 here.
