ALDERNEY WEEK 2012 THE GAMES
Alderney Week 2012: The Games
Many records broken as Alderney runs out of medals!
What a fantastic and action-packed Alderney Week, with plenty of sunshine, fun and games and Olympic sports you've never heard of before.
And, as Alderney (and Sark) had not been invited to Guernsey to take part in the Olympic Torch Relay, we decided to have our very own Games Torch Relay to mark the official opening of Alderney Week 2012. Over 60 torch bearers took part in this amazing and very emotional event.
What happened during Alderney Week 2012? A very busy programme of events! More Information
We have published here a series of photographs of each day's main events on this page to give you an idea of what happened. Simply click on the cursor to view a large image of the thumbnail.
However, we have already uploaded and published hundreds of high resolution images for you to view and download from the Alderney Week Flickr Site. And if you have any good quality photographs of Alderney Week events you'd be happy for us to publish on our website, please email these to firstname.lastname@example.org
ALDERNEY WEEK PLUS
Alderney Week PLUS: 17-19 August 2012
MORE FUN IN THE SUN
This year we decided to add another long weekend of music and entertainment to Alderney Week and, by all accounts, it was a resounding success - starting with the Olympic Ball on Friday, the 60\\\\\\\'s Pop Concert with famous stars of the 60s (in aid of Alderney Cancer Relief) and ending on Sunday 19th with Music in the Sun (... or, as it turned out, Music in the Mist)
The images below will give you an idea of what happened, but you can view and download a large selection of images of Alderney Week PLUS events on our Flickr Website.
ALDERNEY WEEK 2012 - MISS ALDERNEY 2012
Alderney Week 2012 started with the Alderney Children's Party and the Miss Alderney 2012 'Crowning' disco which took place on Easter Saturday 7 April .
Little Miss & Master Alderney Party- Easter Saturday 7 April
Probably one of the most dangerous jobs is volunteering to be a judge for the Little Miss Alderney, Little Master Alderney, Terrific Toddler, Bouncy Baby and Best Fancy Dress. But the three Musketeers - very brave ladies - rose to the challenge. Mums and dads were happy. The prize winners were delighted with their awards and every child left with an Easter present.
It was a fantastic turnout of contestants and the fancy dress entries (theme: “Kings, Queens, Princesses and Athletes”) were exdellent. Compère, Alderney Week Team Leader Ronnie Cairnduff interviewed the candidates for the Little Miss and Master Alderney titles to help the judges choose the winners.
Little Master Alderney (age 5-11) Winner: Luke Atkinson (aged 9). Runners-up: Connor Osborne & Aaron Hallett
Little Miss Alderney (age 5-11): Winner: Katie Shaw (aged 9). Runners-up: Niamh Kellagher and Michaela Cosheril
Why did Luke Atkinson want to be Master Alderney? "Because I get a role to play"... brilliant answer for a 9 year old! and why did 9-year old Katie Shaw want to be Little Miss Alderney? "Because I'm going to have fun"..Little Miss and Master Alderney are now looking forward to Alderney Week when they will accompany Miss Alderney Charlie Barker on some of her duties.
Miss Alderney 2012 Crowning Disco - Easter Saturday 7 April
The Island Hall was the place to be that night, and it was heaving! Island FM's popular DJ Carl Ward had pulled the crowds, and some turned out in hilarous fancy dress outfits to celebrate a certain young lady's birthday.
At 10:30pm Ronnie Cairnduff announced the winner of the Miss Alderney 2012 contest , 17-year old Charlie Barker who was crowned by last year's Miss Alderney Bonnie Flewitt, and then it was big party time. The party continued with a Bunker Party which revellers left just in time for Easter Sunday morning's breakfast!. .
All other events of Alderney Week and Alderney Week PLUS are published on separate galleries on this website and you can also view and download hundreds of images of Alderney Week 2012, day-by-day, and Alderney Week Plus from our Flickr Website
To find out what Miss Alderney 2012 Charlie did during Alderney Week 2012 and at the Jersey Battle of Flowers, you'll have to read her diary. More

Alderney did turn into a Fantasy Island during Alderney Week - a highly successful, action- and fun-packed 8 days of fun and frolics enjoyed by everybody - as you can see from the images below which represent only a small cross section of events that happened day-by-day. Everybody said it was the best Alderney Week ever - but then, they say that every year!

MISS ALDERNEY WALL OF FAME
Miss Alderney across the years: from 1948 until today:
Alderney is blessed with beautiful girls and Alderney Week just could not happen without Miss Alderney - the island’s youngest ambassadress.
The first Miss Alderney after the war was Eileen Sykes who claimed the title in 1948. Since then we’ve had a Miss Alderney for every Alderney Week (well, almost!). Below are the young ladies who claimed the title of Miss Alderney and Maids of Honour (ref: MH) throughout the years. And, as you probably have noticed, since 2011 Miss Alderney no longer has Maids of Honour.
Unfortunately we are missing records and pictures of two or three Miss Alderneys and if you have any photographs or better ones than those published on this page, please send these to Alderney Week PO Box 138, Alderney GY9 3EY or e-mail email@example.com.
And yes, there was Mister Alderney, too and we’re reviving this great fun contest.
