Once again it was party day at the Island Hall for all children under 11 years on the day – Sunday 2nd June
After loadsafun on the bouncy castle, splatting the rat, face painting, and countless games in the gentle sunshine, it was time to go inside as the young contestants stood up to the microphone to say a few words. Just in time, as the thundery shower freshened up the gardens outside.
The youngsters were marvellous, having plenty to say about their favourite bits of Alderney Week and their favourite cartoon characters. Fireworks and Bart Simpson seemed to be tops – what a combination.
And what a job for judges Dorothy & Brian! (Regular visitors to the island and long-time Alderney fans.) But they bit their bullets and did what they must, after which we learnt that the following had claim to fame this year.
Best Baby: Kiri Winder
Terrific Toddler Girl: Adele Laughton
Terrific Toddler Boy: Jack Williams
Fancy Dress Girl and Fancy Dress Boy: Neroli & Drew Queripel – as Ariel and Triton
Master Alderney 2002: Edward Rowe
Little Miss Alderney: Chelsey Noone
Prizes were presented with style by Miss Alderney 2002, Laura Roberts, and her Maids of Honour, Caroline Hope & Polly Penrose – and eagerly received by the lucky winners.
But this was a day when all the kids deserved a prize – we hope that their party was a good one. Well done everybody!
Big Thanks to Christine Foster and Angela Stanley for organising the event - the KFA girls for so tirelessly setting up and helping with the games - Liz Sumner for her wonderful face painting - Margaret and Olive for the teas.
